Foodies Festival Christmas 2016 attracts top chefs

TONIGHT sees the launch of Foodies Festival Christmas at the EICC on Morrison Street, the start of a weekend celebration of all things culinary.

Enter the party spirit as vintage-style singers and carollers entertain as more daring attendees take part in daily events like the Chilli Eating Competition and test their sweet tooth with the Mince Pie Eating Contest, as well as team up to compete in the Christmas Quiz and Charades Relays.

Special guests appearing over throughout the event include MasterChef Winner 2016 Jane Devonshire, who will share her secrets, and Great British Menu star Michael Bremner, who will showcase the fish dish that reduced veteran judge Daniel Clifford to tears on the show.

There’s also a stellar line up in the Chef’s Theatre, including Marcelo Tully, the Michelin-starred Chef from Kinloch Lodge in Skye; Brian Grigor, Michelin-starred Chef at Number One at The Balmoral; Jamie Scott, MasterChef: The Professionals Winner; Adam Newth, Scottish Young Chef of the Year Winner; Scott Davies from The Three Chimneys, Mark Greenaway of Edinburgh’s Restaurant Mark Greenaway, Fraser Allen from The Pompadour by Galvin and many more.

In the Cake & Bake Theatre, burlesque baker Charlotte White will create a modern showstopper of a contemporary Christmas cake in just 30 minutes, while master chocolatier Fiona Sciolti will showcase a new selection of chocolate desserts and treats.

The Drinks Theatre brings Champagne expert Neil Philips and wine experts Charles Metcalfe and Brian Elliot together to introduce their favourite tipples for Christmas, while Melissa Cole gives guided craft beer tastings. There’s also gin, whisky and Christmas Cocktail masterclasses.
