Mojave Desert-born Edinburgh singer Alas de Liona releases her second album 'Noble Rot'
Alas de Liona officially releases her second album ‘Noble Rot’
Edinburgh-based singer Alas de Liona has released her “vampiric” second album 'Noble Rot' in time for Halloween.
Originally from the Mojave Desert in California, the musician is back with an alternative, gothic concept record and the first soundtrack to a vampire tale she’s developing for the screen.
Produced by Rod Jones of Idlewild and recorded at Post Electric in Leith earlier this year, it marks a shift from the ethereal downtempo of her 2024 debut album to some serious cinematic drama.

The record, released today, Friday, October 30, doubles as a solo concept album and the first soundtrack to the vampire tale Alas is developing for the screen. Independent of any future soundtrack use, the songs stand on their own, inviting the listener on a journey from brooding in a gloomy parlour to grooving on a gothic dance floor.
“I'm excited about Noble Rot because it's a big shift in my sound,” said Alas.
“It's more up-tempo and energetic than my previous music, while still fairly dark lyrically. Noble Rot is also more of a concept album than Gravity of Gold was, focusing on the vampire as a means to explore themes of authenticity and navigating society as someone who doesn't always fit in.”
Alas de Liona is an American in Scotland. After a year abroad at university, she made a life-changing move across the Atlantic and settled in Edinburgh.
She has opened for Rufus Wainwright, Travis, Kathryn Joseph, The Proclaimers, Hamish Hawk and Emeli Sandé. She has also played Celtic Connections, Belladrum Festival, Fringe by the Sea and Party at the Palace.
