Rose Leslie: when did Scottish GoT actress have her baby and how long has she been married to Kit Harington?

Scottish actress Rose Leslie, and her husband Kit Harington have welcomed a baby boy.

The couple, who both starred in fantasy TV drama Game of Thrones, recently began renovating their home in time for the arrival of their first child, with Leslie announcing her pregnancy last September.

So, how long have the couple been together, when did they have their son and what’s the baby called? This is what you need to know.

When did Rose Leslie give birth?

A representative for the couple announced that the pair were “very, very happy,” following their son’s birth after they were seen with their newborn in London on 16 February.

Speaking of her pregnancy in October, Leslie said: “I am thrilled to be expecting. I can't wait to meet the new member of our family.”

The famous GoT actors will have their hands full, as they also became the proud owners of a tiny whippet puppy during lockdown .

In an Interview with the New York Post in October, Leslie said: “It was a wonderful thing, if we hadn't been forced to stay behind our front door, we couldn't properly train her and make sure she didn't poop all over the house.”

Details of their newborn son have yet to be revealed, the pair are well-known for their tight-lipped approach to their private life and have rarely been spotted since the beginning of lockdown.

How did Leslie and Harington meet?

The famous duo met on the set of the second season of Game of Thrones, in 2011. Harington played Jon Snow and Leslie was cast as Ygritte, a woman of the Free Folk.

Harington and Leslie sparked rumours of an off-screen romance when the pair were photographed holding hands in 2012 on a dinner date in London.

In late 2012, the couple had still not gone public on their romance, but they did film the famously steamy love scene of their characters for GOT season three during this time.

While promoting the third season, Harington said that he and Leslie “really get on as friends and we hit it off very quickly when we first met and I think that reflects on screen, because we've got a good dialogue going on off-screen."

The scenes were filmed in Iceland and Harington revealed in 2016 that he had fallen in love with his co-star during the cast’s time in Iceland.

In 2017, the couple moved in together and Harington told Esquire they would enjoy a private love-life as “It's as much her relationship as it is mine and I can't speak for both of us. But yeah, we are very, very happy. So that's what I'll say about that."

How long have they been an official couple?

While the GoT pair are now married and parents to a baby boy, it wasn’t always a fairytale romance.

Following the 2012 scenes, the couple continued to keep a low profile and did not add to speculation about their budding romance.

In 2014, it was rumoured Leslie had fallen for someone else and Harington told The Standard that speculation of a relationship was "all rumor and myth."

But he caveated this with: “On a serious level, I wouldn't tell the press if I was in a relationship or not.

“I wouldn't ever reveal that, because it takes you down a certain road, I have no desire to be courting the press with my love life.

“It's not my job, it's not who I am — and I actually think it's more fun for everyone to speculate.”

In July 2014, Ygritte died in Snow’s arms and their on-screen relationship ended, but was this the moment they decided to continue their relationship off-screen?

The pair attended the Los Angeles Comic-Con in 2014 and rumours spread that they were back together and had been since May of that year.

But GoT fandom erupted into tears in January 2015, when Harington told GQ magazine: “I'll never talk about any particular relationship I've been in. But I will say I'm single at the moment."

Later in 2015 the pair were spotted at an airport holding hands and cosied up to each other. This time the speculation seemed to be confirmed by their GoT co-star Emilia Clarke at the SAG Awards.

When asked about the kissing on GoT, she said: “You know, we like to spread the love on our show. It's a beautiful thing. She's one of my best friends, so it's good."

The relationship was finally confirmed in April 2016, when Leslie and Harington arrived at the Olivier Awards and were very much together.

It was only after this that Harington admitted he had been in love with Leslie since their steamy Icelandic scenes.

He said his favourite part of GoT was season three because “The country is beautiful, because the Northern Lights are magical, and because it was there that I fell in love,

"If you're already attracted to someone, and then they play your love interest in the show, it becomes very easy to fall in love."

In September 2017, the couple announced that they were engaged in an old fashioned style notice in The Times. They married in 2018.

Where did they get married?

The couple cemented their love for one another in a stunning Scottish ceremony on 23 June 2018.

They tied the knot at Wardhill castle in Aberdeenshire, where Leslie’s aristocratic family are originally from.

Emilia Clarke, Peter Dinklage and fellow famous couple Jack Donnelly and Malin Akerman were among the attendees.

Where do Leslie and Harington live?

Harigton and Leslie bought a moated Grade II-listed £1.75million Suffolk home in 2020, before announcing they were expecting a baby in September.

The Tudor-style home was famously described by Leslie as ‘the house Jon Snow built’. With a thatched roof, it boasts eight acres of land and underwent extensive renovations.

The moated mansion included a swimming pool, stables, tennis court, banqueting hall and croquet lawn.

They will now add a theatrical kitchen with wood-burning stove, central heating and a Victorian-style bathroom with freestanding bath in the master bedroom. The refurb is reportedly costing upwards of £500,000.

They will also move their old kitchen from the northern end of the house to a more-modern 1960s extension where the new country-style kitchen will be fitted.

Harington has said of the house: “I found my own little spot in the county of Suffolk and I'm now a Suffolk boy. I love it. It is really special to me.”
