FUNNY Girl was the last musical to bring Sheridan Smith to The Playhouse.

Wowing the audience the actress and singer made the role of Fanny Brice her own.

There’s a chance you might again hear her sing Fanny’s signature song, My Man, from that show when she stars in Sheridan In Concert at the Greenside Place venue next Thursday.

The double Olivier Award-winning actress, who is embarking on her first nationwide concert tour remembers the Capital well.

“I fell in love with that beautiful city when I was touring in Funny Girl. It was a breathtaking experience not least because of the size of the auditorium.

“That might have been daunting but, from the minute I stepped on stage, the audience was so warm and welcoming.

‘Every single performance, you could tell they were really up for it. There was an incredible atmosphere. At the very end, 18 costume changes later, I stood at the back of the stage facing away from the audience and all I could hear was this wall of noise.

“It was the closest I’ll ever be to being a rock star; it gives me goose bumps as I think of it now.

“Afterwards, Susan Boyle came backstage to see me and she’s said she wants to come to my concert there. I can’t say how much I’m looking forward to returning to that venue”.

The first half of the concert tour will feature all the tracks from her recent album, the second..?

“Well, I don’t want to give too much away,” says the 36-year-old, “but there will be classic songs that audiences will know - my version, for instance, of Crystal Gayle’s country standard, Talking In Your Sleep, as well as a bit of humour and a tribute to my heroine, Dolly Parton.

“I just adore her. If ever I go to a fancy dress party, I always go as Dolly.

“I think if I met her, I’d just cry. And there will also be a lot of audience interaction.”

Songs from the album to feature in the concert include City Of Stars from La La Land and I Smell A Rat.
