The annual Edinburgh Marathon, which is Scotland’s most popular marathon, returns today. This year marks a special one for the event, as the race celebrates its 20th anniversary.

Since its inception in 2003, it has only grown in popularity with over 16,000 set to take part today. It is also second only to the famous London marathon in terms of size with 11 events taking place.

It has proved very favourable with avid runners too. This is due to the course, which has evolved over the years. It is now one of the flattest courses, which is ideal if you’re looking to smash your personal best time.
