Discover daytrips from Edinburgh: book now for autumn and winter delights at Rosslyn Chapel
Rosslyn Chapel is synonymous with incredible mysticism, culture and discovery … built more than 600 years ago, it has been drawing pilgrims and visitors for generations, intrigued by the stunning architecture and the mysteries the building is said to hold.
From musical stonework to possible links to Knights Templar, Hollywood backdrop to family day out, the chapel is just half an hour by car, and easily accessible by bus, making this the ideal escape from the city to another world. And as it only closes on December 24, 25 and January 1, it’s a year round treat.
Nestled in Roslin Glen, autumn and winter are particularly good times to visit, as you watch the nature’s changing seasons transform the surroundings. Inside, whether it’s a regular tour, a special event or a candlelit evening visit, there’s always something new to discover.
Do I need to book?
It’s highly recommended, even in the quieter autumn and winter seasons. You can reserve your 90 minute slot – which includes a guided talk – at www.rosslynchapel.com
After the talk you’re free to explore and make your own discoveries – including the newly illuminated 12 arches which have so far been hidden in semi darkness, leaving time for a visit to the shop and café to round off a magical day out.
You can even pick up some Christmas shopping, including beautiful cards, books and buy a gift experience pack, treating someone you love to admission, a guidebook and tea and coffee for two. Don’t forget to check out the online shop too at rosslynchapel.com/shop/
Are there any special events?
Yes! Visit the website to find out about special candlelit evening events in the run up to Christmas, which are extended to two hour slots. And booking is strongly advised for two special events, including storyteller Dougie Mackay who makes history come alive. His special session takes place on December 1.
And on if you want to feel particularly Christmassy, join the Rudsambee Company of Singers on December 9 for festive choral music to warm the heart. Find out more at www.rosslynchapel.com/live-event/christmas-cheers-rudsambee-company-of-singers/
Don’t forget to wrap up your visit with a warming drink or snack in the café, then wrap up warmly to explore the beautiful surroundings.
Helping the charity
