Hidden Door Electric City takes over old lighting depot

THE Hidden Door Festival 2016 kicks off at 6pm Friday, May 27 at the disused street lighting depot on King's Stables Road.

The festival will transform the site - for one last time – into a venue where the public can explore and discover live music, theatre, bars, a cinema, and a multitude of art exhibition areas showcasing some of Scotland’s best emerging creative talent.

This year’s theme is ‘Hidden Door Electric City’, in homage to the site’s recent history. The festival line-up features 50 visual artists, 45 live music acts, 15 theatre companies, 20 poets and 12 film organisations.

Music acts include Teleman, Meilyr Jones, Rosie Owe, NZCA Lines, Jane Weaver, Bossy Love, Rozi Plain, Luke Abbott, Supermoon and Rival Consoles.

The visual arts programme includes work by recent graduates from Edinburgh, Glasgow and Dundee art colleges, while the theatre-lovers can enjoy a dozen productions, including Walden, Macbeth in Silence and Ubu Roi.

Hidden Door this year features a poetry and spoken word program, with the likes of Rally and Broad, MacGillivray, Jamie Gordon, Nick-e Melville and Ron Butlin taking the stage.

Hidden Door is a not-for-profit organisation, run entirely by volunteers, dedicated to opening up disused spaces in Edinburgh and making them available to exciting creative talent based in Scotland to present new ideas and groundbreaking projects.

Last year’s Hidden Door festival attracted 10,000 visitors.
