Preview: The Bohemians in Legally Blonde

It’s a very different piece of work to those the founders of The Bohemians would have staged way back in 1909.

Adapted from the book by Heather Hach, it in turn spawned a film adaption starring Reese Witherspoon.

From big ensemble numbers such as Omigod You Guys and So Much Better to athletic chorus dance sequences of Whipped Into Shape, Legally Blonde has something for everyone says Lydia Carrington, who plays Elle.

“Legally Blonde is a wonderfully infectious show. I’ve had an absolutely amazing experience playing Elle. Although the show is fun and glamorous, and we all love the movie, Elle definitely goes on a personal journey.

“I think we can all recall a time where we have gone on our own journey for the wrong reasons, but somewhere along the way we stumble upon the right outcome.

“I think that’s what makes the show so enjoyable for us performing in it, but also for audiences. We can totally relate to the characters.”

Director Jon Cuthbertson adds, “Legally Blonde makes you smile. Ultimately, that’s what we want from a theatre experience.

“Often, theatre and even music theatre can be seen as something for a certain type of person. Legally Blonde is one of those shows that breaks down all those barriers, appealing to a huge and diverse audience.

“It’s got love, it’s got heartache, it’s got drama, and most importantly, it’s got real dog actors on stage!

“I’d really urge everyone, from regular theatre goers to anyone looking for something different on a week night or weekend to come and see this show.”

Bringing together people of all ages and walks of life, The Bohemians annually offers a company of more than 50 people the opportunity to work with dynamic and experienced directors, musical directors and technicians presenting large-scale productions.

Chairperson of the Bohemians Lyric Opera Company, Gillian Bruce says, “We’re hugely excited to be back in the King’s Theatre this year. We truly are a community-centred group.
