Barratt Homes opens free pumpkin patch for families at West Craigs, Edinburgh
The Community Pumpkin Patch offers families a free pumpkin to take home, alongside a seasonal photo spot

Families in Edinburgh can enjoy the pumpkin patch season without the price tag this Halloween, as Barratt Homes opens its first Community Pumpkin Patch at its West Craigs development.

Running from 19 to 31 October, the free experience offers visiting families a pumpkin to take home and decorate, alongside a mini pumpkin photo station beside the development’s sales office, which is perfect for capturing those all-important autumn snaps.
The initiative comes as growers across the UK have warned that pumpkins could be in shorter supply this Halloween following a summer of extreme heat and drought, with reduced yields raising concerns that the seasonal staple could become harder to find and more expensive in the run-up to 31 October.
Pumpkin patch days out have also become increasingly popular with families looking to enjoy the autumn season and capture the perfect seasonal photo. However, the cost of admission and additional activities can quickly add up, particularly for families looking for affordable days out during the school holidays.
Lorraine Paterson, Sales and Marketing Director at Barratt and David Wilson Homes East Scotland, said: “Pumpkin patches have become such a fun part of autumn, and we wanted to bring a little of that experience right to our local community’s doorstep.
“We know the cost of family days out can add up quickly, and with pumpkins potentially in shorter supply this year, we wanted to give residents and visitors a simple, completely free way to enjoy the season. Whether it's snapping those much-loved autumn photos or taking home a pumpkin to carve together, it's all about making a bit of seasonal fun accessible to as many families as possible.”
Residents and visitors are invited to visit Barratt Homes West Craigs this October to enjoy the photo opportunity and collect their free pumpkin.
