MP asks if Broxburn could benefit from a banking hub
Gregor Poynton, MP for the Livingston constituency, is asking residents, businesses and community organisations in Broxburn for their views on whether the town should have a banking hub.

Broxburn currently has no bank, and Gregor is seeking initial views on whether a banking hub could provide residents and businesses with better access to essential banking and cash services.
The call for views comes as new figures from LINK show that, despite the continued shift towards contactless and digital payments, cash remains an important part of everyday life.
Across the Livingston constituency, there were 538,150 ATM withdrawals in the first six months of 2026, with more than £51.1 million withdrawn.
While cash use has fallen significantly since 2019, the number of ATMs in the constituency has fallen by 16%, compared with a 30% reduction nationally.
Gregor Poynton MP said: “Broxburn is a thriving town, but it currently has no bank. While the way we use cash and banking services is changing, access to them remains important for many people.
“The figures show that people across our constituency are still withdrawing tens of millions of pounds in cash, with more than half a million ATM withdrawals locally in just the first six months of this year.
“I want to find out whether there is a genuine need for a banking hub in Broxburn, and the best way to do that is to listen to the people who live and work here.
“I’m asking residents, businesses and local organisations to get in touch and tell me about their experiences and whether they think a banking hub would make a difference.
“Once we have gathered those initial views and spoken to local stakeholders, I plan to launch a wider consultation so that we can properly understand the level of demand and, if there is strong support, build the strongest possible case for a banking hub in Broxburn.”
A banking hub is a shared physical space on the main street, providing basic cash services and face-to-face banking support for customers of multiple major banks. Hubs are owned by Cash Access UK and operated by the Post Office, with community bankers from participating banks available on different days to provide face-to-face support. They are designed to provide an alternative where communities have lost traditional bank branches.

The initial feedback will help Gregor engage with local stakeholders and assess the case for a wider consultation on a banking hub for Broxburn.
