Coronavirus in Scotland: 121 new cases reported in the Lothians in the last 24 hours as the country records an additional five deaths

In the last 24 hours five additional deaths have been recorded in Scotland while 928 new cases have been reported, 121 of these were recorded in the Lothians.

Of the new cases reported today, in addition to the 121 that were recorded in the Lothians, 283 were in the Greater Glasgow and Clyde health board and 169 were in Lanarkshire.

The rest were reported across nine other health board areas.

1,672 people are currently in hospital with the virus which is a decrease of 38 from the figure reported yesterday.

108 people are currently in intensive care, which is the same figure reported yesterday.

As of 8.30am today, 866,823 people had received their first dose of the vaccine in Scotland.

Over the course of the weekend, approximately 80,000 people received the first dose of the vaccine.

The five additional deaths recorded in the last 24 hours brings the death toll in Scotland, under this daily measurement, to 6,443.

The number of deaths recorded on a Monday are often artificially low as registration offices are largely closed across the country on Sundays.

The additional 928 positive cases in the last 24 hours brings the total number of people who have tested positive for the virus since the start of the pandemic to 186,720.
