Coronavirus in Scotland: 194 cases recorded in the Lothians today as 163,377 vaccinated across the country

A total of 194 new cases of coronavirus have been recorded in the Lothians in the past 24 hours as First Minister Nicola Sturgeon announced that 163,377 people have so far been vaccinated across the country.

Elsewhere, 595 new cases were recorded in Greater Glasgow and Clyde, 307 in Lanarkshire, and 144 in Ayrshire and Arran.

The remaining cases were spread across the seven other mainland health boards.

Across Scotland, 1,782 people have tested positive for covid-19, representing 11.5% of the the total number of tests carried out.

This takes the total number of covid cases in Scotland to 151,548.

As of Yesterday, 163,377 had received their first dose of Pfizer or AstraZeneca vaccine.

1,664 people are currently in hospital with covid, an increase of 126 since yesterday and means that those in hospital is ‘quite a bit above the peak of the first wave back in April’, according to the First Minister.

126 people are intensive care, three more than yesterday, and one additional death has been registered, however, figures are often ‘artificially low’ on Mondays due to registration offices being closed.

Since the last media briefing on Friday, a total of 97 deaths were recorded taking the total number of deaths up to 4,969.

The latest figures come as mass community roll out of the vaccine for the over 80s began today with the Government expecting to utilise more than 1,100 GP practices and community centres.
