Edinburgh Evening News readers have reacted to the news that travellers returning from Spain will have to quarantine for 14 days.

The measures were announced by Nicola Sturgeon on Saturday, and came into force from midnight that day.

The decision means that all those entering Scotland from Spain will need to self-isolate for two weeks.

Ms Sturgeon underlined that all Covid-19 prevention measures are subject to change at short notice, and warned people to be cautious about non-essential foreign travel.

Some Evening News readers were supportive of the announcement, and many questioned why people would be travelling to Spain in the first place.

Clare Bauld said: "Why anyone wants to go anywhere abroad right now is beyond me! Risking taking kids is even more of a wonder!! Its been a difficult time for folks but common sense would surely make you wait? We are just coming out of lockdown.”

“Quite right. When you see what is happening in Australia, we don't want a repeat of the lockdown,” said Henry Campbell Gillan.

Fiona Savage added: “Madness to even consider holidaying abroad this year if you are not prepared to have your holiday cancelled or to go into quarantine. at short notice. This situation will be going on for a long time we all need to manage our expectations.”

“Thank goodness. Why can't people just wait til next year?” added Lesley Young.

However some felt the move was an over-reaction.

"Just quarantine people from the most affected areas in Spain, not the whole country. This will ruin the economy of both the UK and Spain. The islands seem to be alright at the moment,” said Antonello Maraglino.

"A complete disgraceful overreaction by all governments. Some areas have nothing,” said John Monaghan.

Other readers suggested holidaymakers make the most of what Scotland has to offer instead.

Fraser Tait said: “Spend your money in this country folks! Think we all need to give our hospitality some trade!”
