Edinburgh is a constantly-evolving city and, while eye-catching new buildings often grab the headlines, the way public spaces are used has an equally large impact on the Capital’s residents.
There are a number of projects in the pipeline that will dramatically change the city, altering the way people enjoy and move around the city.

1. Edinburgh City Centre Transformation
The Edinburgh City Centre Transformation (ECCT) is a 10 year plan to improve the centre of the capital at a cost of £314 million, including adding pedestrian priority zones, re-organisation of traffic lanes, a safe cycle route network, junction improvements, public transport interchanges, bus priority measures, and revitalised public spaces. 2. George Street & First New Town Design Project
The £32.6 million George Street & First New Town Design Project is at the pre-planning stage and, if approved, will increase pedestrian space and active travel infrastructure, as well as adding landscaped areas and events areas. It is due to be completed by 2025. Photo: WYG, LDA Design
3. Picardy Place Redesign
The £48.7 million redesign of Picardy Place, due to be completed next year, will change the existing road junction and public public spaces, relocated the tram stop and bus interchange, and add active travel infrastructure. Photo: Optimised Environments (OPEN)
4. City Centre West to East Link
