Historic Environment Scotland (HES), which is responsible for more than 300 heritage sites, has announced plans for a phased reopening of its attractions, with 70 per cent to be open again by mid-September. The sites include both free to access and ticketed properties, with the reopening to start from 1 August. Here are 23 of the Scottish sites that are due to open in August and September.
5. Craigmillar Castle

6. Dirleton Castle
Dating to the 13th century, this medieval fortress sits just a couple of miles west of North Berwick and is one of Scotland’s oldest surviving strongholds. Open from late August. Photo: Shutterstock
7. Doune Castle

8. Dryburgh Abbey
