Historic Environment Scotland (HES), which is responsible for more than 300 heritage sites, has announced plans for a phased reopening of its attractions, with 70 per cent to be open again by mid-September. The sites include both free to access and ticketed properties, with the reopening to start from 1 August. Here are 23 of the Scottish sites that are due to open in August and September.
9. Dumbarton Castle

10. Dunblane Catherdral

11. Dunstaffnage Castle
Built before 1240 on a rock above the Firth of Lorn, this castle was captured by Robert the Bruce in 1308 and remained in royal hands until 1469. Open from late August. Photo: Shutterstock
12. Elgin Cathedral
Nicknamed ‘Lantern of the North’, this cathedral lost its roof after the Protestant Reformation in 1560 and its central tower fell not long after. It will reopen from late August. Photo: Shutterstock
