Ryan Reynolds has set the internet into a frenzy  by confirming that Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine will officially be joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe in Deadpool 3.

Fans have been anxiously awaiting any news on the upcoming sequel, and were disappointed when there were no announcements on the film made at Comic Con or D23.

Director Shawn Levy has long teased it was his dream to get Reynolds and Jackman on the big screen together to the delight of fans.

Levy spoke with combook.com earlier in the year and when asked about it said: “I absolutely will confirm my intention and determination to be the lucky son of a b***h who puts those two magnificent gods in the same movie together. That will happen and it will be me.

Fans have been eagerly awaiting the introduction of mutants into the MCU since Iron Man first appeared in 2008.

However, with this exciting news and the new additions of Ms Marvel and Namor in the universe it seems that mutants are here to stay.

So, what can fans expect from the exciting collaboration and how long will they have to wait? Here’s everything you need to know about Deadpool 3.

When will Deadpool 3 be out?

At the end of the exciting video the release date for the film is shown to be September 6, 2024.

Jackman himself confirmed it when he appeared alongside Ryan Reynolds in the teaser for Deadpool 3 where Reynolds said: “Hey Hugh, you wanna play Wolverine one more time?”, to which Hugh Jackman replied: “Yeah, sure, Ryan.”

However, eagle eyed fans will know this is not the first time that Wolverine has been mentioned in the MCU with a sly easter egg in She-Hulk in the form of a website news headline that read “Man fights with metal claws in bar brawl”, confirming that the clawed hero is kicking around in true Wolverine fashion.

What will Deadpool 3 be about?

Throughout the comics the characters have been on many adventures, and we have even seen the two characters on screen together in the X-Men Origins: Wolverine film.

Ryan Reynolds confirmed that in 2010 there was an idea for a third Deadpool film that would have included Jackman’s return as Logan.

He tweeted in 2021: “before Disney bought Fox, Deadpool 3 was gonna be a road trip between Deadpool and Logan. Rashomon style. For real.”

However, fans were quick to notice that the comic book the actor was reading in the clip was Wolverine (Vol. 7) issue 21 written by Benjamin Percy, with art by Adam Kubert. The issue was published in May 2022.

This comic book was likely chosen as it was the most recent team up between the characters.

However, it could be an easter egg on what the plot for Deadpool 3 may include.

In their most recent team up they take on Danger, the sentient personification of the X-men’s old training ground, the Danger Room. Danger was once an ally to the mutants but it seems that she now has her own agenda.
