We’re spoilt for choice in Edinburgh when it comes to eating out. And though we said farewell to several popular businesses in 2023 we also welcomed a wide range of new establishments, from the unique Port of Leith Distillery, a rock n roll themed bar and grill in the city centre, to a Stockbridge bakery that became so popular people were queuing up to two hours for a croissant.
In part one of this list we will look at 13 new businesses that are worth checking out.

7. Lannan Bakery
Opening in Stockbeidge last summer, Lannan Bakery emerged as a huge hit in the Capital, with some customers having queuing for two hours to get inside the bakery. It’s popularity saw the small team producing up to 600 pastries a day which owner, Darcie Maher, said is “insane for a bakery this size.” Photo: Lannan Bakery
8. Duck & Waffle
Located in the St James Quarter, the Duck & Waffle has been a hit with locals since it opened last year. We went along in October 2023 to see what all the fuss was about and the menu did not disappoint. From their delicious Atlantic prawn roll, roasted sea bass fillet and baked cheesecake, to the restaurant's signature duck and waffle accompanied with crispy leg confit - the choice is yours.
