Bald Baker Edinburgh to close Slateford shop as online business continues to grow

An award-winning bakery in Edinburgh will close its shop in Slateford as its online business grows.

The Bald Baker started life in 2021 during lockdown in the kitchen of owner Scott Parker’s mum. It would go on to launch its first physical location on Oxgangs Broadway before moving to Slateford Road.

But Scott has now made the decision to close his Slateford shop and instead focus his efforts on the online and catering parts of the business as well as his personal life.

The bakery has been acknowledged for its scotch pies, winning bronze at the World Championship Scotch Pie Awards in 2023 and silver for their macaroni pies at the 2025 awards. The self-taught baker said that the break from shop life will allow him to focus on sleep, being a dad and having “a life again”.

Posting on Facebook, Scott said: “I've sadly made the decision to close the shop at Slateford Road. Don't panic though - it's only the shop closing, NOT Bald Baker.

“Every other day there seems to be a small business posting a closing announcement, & now it's Baldi's turn. With our online ordering and catering side of the business continuing to grow and grow and the shop making less and less - it was only a matter of time.

“Over the past few months I've had to keep the shop closed on certain days so I could focus on orders. It's been a bit of "is he open, is he shut?" situation, but I had to do what I had to do. I'll no get started on rising costs which also played a part (cause we all know I love a story), but aye, it all adds up.

“I'm taking a wee break from shop life so I can sleep, be a dad and have a life again. You'll still be able to order online and we'll be doing pop-ups n that. I'm keeping an eye out for a new smaller unit...

“Thank you to everyone who supported me at Slateford! Honestly, it means more than you know. See you all soonish.”
