The drummer’s show, No One You Know, delves into memories and stories of the band’s early days

Edinburgh festival-goers will have the chance to meet Dave Rowntree, the drummer of legendary British band Blur, as he hands out flyers among crowds ahead of his Fringe show on Friday.

The drummer - a huge figure in British rock - will be out and about on Wednesday promoting his upcoming spoken-word show, No One You Know.

The show explores his new photobook of the same name, featuring exclusive and never-before-seen photographs from Blur's earliest days.

Taken by Dave himself on an old Olympus OM-10, the images capture the band before fame took hold - offering a glimpse of life inside Blur at the very beginning of their extraordinary career.

In the live show, Dave tells the stories behind the photographs, sharing memories from his years in Blur and revisiting a time when the band's future was still completely unknown.

Fans of the band will be able to say hello, grab a flyer and chat to the star about his new book on Wednesday before a special matinee show at La Belle Angele.

Speaking to the LA magazine Monster Children about the book, the drummer said he rediscovered the photographs during lockdown while going through boxes of old memorabilia.

He said: “I've got some of us in the studio working on the first album and I just remember how exciting that was, how it just felt like everything you know. We hadn't done anything like that before, hadn't worked with the producer, hadn't been in a proper recording studio.

“All these things that were first, when everything was disorientating, exciting and kind of crazy.”

The show starts at 1pm and runs for two and half hours. Tickets on the Fringe website cost £21.50.
