A spokesman for the orchestra said: “In the spirit of condolence and remembrance, Canada’s National Arts Centre Orchestra will dedicate tonight’s concert, at Edinburgh’s Usher Hall, to the memory of Corporal Cirillo.

“Before the concert begins, the audience will be asked to join the players in a minute’s silence, as a mark of respect for this life lost far too soon, and in the most tragic way.”

Canada’s National Arts Centre Orchestra is on a UK tour of remembrance, performance and education to mark the centenary of the outbreak of the First World War.
