Radio DJ admits to upskirting and child abuse image charges at Edinburgh Sheriff Court

Man who photographed sleeping woman on bus pleads guilty to series of sexual offences

A radio presenter who upskirted women in the street and on a public bus is awaiting sentencing after pleading guilty to a series of sexual offences.

Craig Gordon, 49, took indecent pictures of one woman’s buttocks as he walked behind her and snapped images of a second victim’s underwear while she was drunk and asleep on a bus.

The images were discovered after police searched his home last year and found material depicting the sexual abuse of children as young as four.

The trance music was also found to have used the messaging app Telegram to discuss the sexual abuse of children and to share and receive indecent images.

Gordon, of Tranent, East Lothian, has been a regular presenter on community radio stations East Coast FM and Saltire FM and has appeared on the online footy podcast the Non-League Radio Show.

He is now facing a jail sentence and has been placed on the sex offenders register after he appeared at Edinburgh Sheriff Court on Thursday, July 2.

Gordon pleaded guilty to recording images of the genitals, buttocks or underwear of unknown females including one who was intoxicated and sleeping, all between July 10, 2022 and September 8 last year.

He also admitted to sending messages to Telegram accounts of unknown males discussing the sexual abuse of females between March 8, 2024 and September 8 last year.

And he pleaded guilty to charges of possessing and distributing indecent images of children between February 7, 2024 and September 8 last year.

Prosecutor Corey Laouadi told the court Gordon was employed by ISS Security when a colleague spotted him looking at photos of children aged around 12 on his mobile phone.

The concerned worker reported the incident to his manager and the police and Gordon’s one-bedroom flat was raided by officers in August 2024.

The court heard officers seized a total of 16 mobile phones, seven cameras, four hard drives, three laptops, two memory sticks, two games consoles and a tablet from the property.

Forensic analysis of the devices recovered hundreds of child abuse images, including material featuring female children as young as four.

Evidence also showed Gordon using Telegram to download and share indecent images and videos. Logs revealed he had participated in group and one-to-one conversations discussing the sexual abuse of children.

The court was told several images of females being upskirted in public places without their knowledge were also found on an iPad.

One picture featured a woman being filmed where her buttocks and underwear were shown as Gordon walked behind her in a street in April 2024.

The fiscal added: “There were also two photographs of an unknown female who appeared to be intoxicated while asleep on a bus and her legs open revealing her underwear.”

Sheriff Charles Walls said: “You now stand convicted of serious sexual offences including voyeurism and possession and the distribution of indecent images of children.

“The Crown’s detailed narrative reveals the significant extent of your offending and you must understand this is a very serious matter.”

The sheriff agreed to release Gordon on bail with conditions including him being prohibited from having contact with anyone under 18 and a total ban on the taking of photographs.

Sentence was deferred for the preparation of a social work report, a restriction of liberty order assessment and a risk assessment to next month.
