Edinburgh man, 25, in court over crash between car and rickshaw on West Approach Road which left three people in hospital

A 25-year-old Edinburgh man has appeared in court after three people were seriously injured in a crash involving a car and a rickshaw.

Mathew MacKay was charged with six offences under the Road Traffic Act 1988 - including causing serious injury by dangerous driving - and attempting to pervert the course of justice following the crash on the West Approach Road.

Police were called to the collision at around 10.35pm on Saturday night. Three people - the rider and passengers of the rickshaw - were taken to the Edinburgh Royal Infirmary.

Mr MacKay made no plea when he appeared in private at Edinburgh Sheriff Court on Monday and was released on bail pending his next court appearance. His general address was given as Edinburgh.

Anyone with information, dashcam footage or private CCTV should contact police on 101 quoting incident 4392 of Saturday, May 1.

The road was closed overnight on Saturday and it was reopened shortly after 10am on Sunday.
