Man in Water of Leith sparks rescue callout before arrest over threatening and abusive behaviour

A 27-year-old man sparked a rescue callout to the Water of Leith today before he was arrested in connection with threatening and abusive behaviour after making his way out of the water.

Police were called shortly before 5pm on Tuesday following a report of a man in the water by Shore Place in Leith.

Pictures shared online also showed an ambulance, the fire service water rescue unit and a local coastguard team parked up nearby.

A police spokesperson said: "Police were called around 4.50pm on Tuesday, 11 August, 2020, following the report of a man in the water at Leith Shore Place, Edinburgh.

"Officers attended and a 27-year-old man was arrested in connection with threatening and abusive behaviour following his exit from the water.

"There were no injuries.

"A report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal."
