Shocking scenes in Edinburgh as video captures mass brawls and drinking on Meadows

A video has captured dramatic scenes at a Capital beauty spot as fights break out during mass gatherings in the sunshine.

The video, taken on Saturday evening was widely shared across Twitter and shows multiple fights breaking out in the Meadows including one incident where a glass bottle is smashed over someone’s head.

Police appear on the scene to try and break it up, and appear to make some arrests, pushing people to the ground.

The Meadows has been a trouble spot during lockdown as a prime spot for mass gatherings.

Scottish Government coronavirus guidelines loosened on Friday, as the Stay at Home message changed to Stay Local.

The rules allow four people from two households to meet outdoors, as long as they remain two meters apart.

Police Scotland has been contacted for comment on the incident.
