A thief who broke into a Bathgate house and made off with jewellery is being hunted by police.

Police believe the break-in occurred sometime between 12pm and 1.10pm on Tuesday, January 17, whilst no one was in the Muir Road property.

A quantity of jewellery was stolen and enquiries are ongoing to establish if anything else was taken.

Detective Sergeant John Bowerbank said: “Officers are carrying out local enquiries and have been told that there was a man acting suspiciously around the time the break-in occurred. He is described as a white male with dark hair and was wearing dark coloured clothing.

“We would like to speak to anyone who has seen this man in the area and may be able to describe him further or anyone else who has information that could assist our enquiries.”
