West Lothian M8: Pedestrian taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries after serious crash at Harthill

The collision, which involved a grey Renault Trafic SL28 van, a Volkswagen Crafter van and a 26-year-old male pedestrian, occurred on the M8 near Harthill Services, at around 4.05pm on Monday (October 17). Emergency services, including police and a medical helicopter, quickly arrived on the scene.
The pedestrian, who sustained life-threatening injuries, was rushed to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital in Glasgow by air ambulance.

Hide AdThe road was closed westbound for around five hours to allow officers to carry out a full investigation into the collision. A diversion was put in place, however, some drivers on the M8 were stuck in traffic for hours. The road fully reopened at 9.35pm.
Police have arrested a 33-year-old man in connection with the incident. He has been released pending further enquiries. Officers are now appealing to the public for information as they continue to investigate the incident.
Sergeant Scott Sutherland, of Motherwell’s Road Policing Unit, said: “Our enquiries to establish the full circumstances of the crash are ongoing and I would urge anyone who may be able to help to get in touch.
“We would be especially keen to hear from anyone who may have dash-cam footage of the incident.
