Woman left unconscious in pool of her own blood after ex-partner's crow bar attack

The mum-of-two was left lying out cold in a pool of her blood

A violent thug who battered his former partner unconscious in a horror crowbar attack is facing a lengthy jail sentence.

Connor Rowley, 29, launched the savage assault on victim Tiffany Thomas with the makeshift weapon after luring her to a secluded industrial estate in Mayfield, Midlothian, last year.

The cowardly attacker left the mum-of-two lying out cold in a pool of blood and with a six inch gash to her head before he fled the scene.

Tiffany was rushed to hospital where she was forced to undergo an operation to drain blood from her brain and close the gaping wound to her forehead.

The 21-year-old student midwife had 16 stitches inserted to the horrifying injury and now suffers from PTSD, memory loss and painful thunderclap migraines.

Rowley pled guilty to assaulting Tiffany, all to her permanent impairment, permanent disfigurement and danger to her life when he appeared at Edinburgh Sheriff Court on Tuesday July 7.

Sheriff Matthew Auchincloss agreed to continue bail and sentence was deferred for the preparation of a social work report and restriction of liberty order assessment to next month.

Tiffany has now bravely spoken out about her ordeal and praised the medics who treated her after the shocking assault that took place at around 10.30pm on April 11 last year.

Tiffany, from Midlothian, said: “I had been in a relationship with him but we had been apart for about three years when he asked to meet me to discuss child care.

“He asked me to go up to a local industrial estate where he was working on a car and as I was walking up to where I thought he would be he jumped me from behind a fence.

“I was hit by something really hard and heard it clang on the ground. It wasn’t until later I realised I’d been attacked with a crowbar.

“The pain was so excruciating and I was so disoriented that I must have blacked out for a bit.

“The coward then ran away and left me there but fortunately my partner was in the car behind me and rushed over to help.

“I was lying on the ground and there was so much blood it was like an oil spillage. My partner got me into the car as I was drifting in and out of consciousness and drove me to hospital.

“I was using my daughters jumper to try and stem the flow of blood but it was spraying all over the inside of the car.”

After arriving at the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh, Tiffany was immediately rushed into surgery for treatment to her injuries.

She said: “I had to have an operation and had a surgical drain to my brain there was so much blood. The wound was open right through to my skull and doctors had to insert 16 stitches to close it properly.

“I was so disoriented for days afterwards and at times I couldn’t even remember my child’s name.”

Tiffany said she now suffers from PTSD where she is scared to leave the house on her own, memory loss and takes severe migraine attacks.

She said: “I really can’t thank the doctors and nurses enough for what they have done for me - they were all so kind and their care was second to none.”

Tiffany is also promoting the Disclosure Scheme for Domestic Abuse Scotland service, known as Clare’s Law in the rest of the UK, that allows for checks if anyone has a history of domestic abuse.

She added: “I would urge everyone, both men and women, to use Clare’s Law if they have any doubts over a partner. It is there for a reason and could help to save a life one day.”
