Edinburgh man jailed for six years over 'unimaginable' historic child sex abuse
The series of historic sexual and violent offences against children happened in Edinburgh's Portobello area
A 77-year old man has been jailed for six years for a series of historic sexual and violent offences against children in Edinburgh.
Archibald Thorburn was sentenced at the High Court in Edinburgh on Friday, November 6, after previously being found guilty of the offences.
The crimes took place between 1963 and 1992 in the Portobello area of the city.

Thorburn subjected his victims to physical and sexual abuse over a number of years.
Detective Inspector Stephanie Garnett said: “This was a harrowing investigation, and our thoughts are with the victims. The abuse they suffered as children is unimaginable and I hope this sentence helps bring them some closure.
“Thorburn’s crimes were truly shocking; he cruelly subjected them to physical and sexual abuse over a number of years.
“We remain committed to supporting victims of sexual crime and protecting children from harm and abuse. We will use all available resources to find and arrest the abusers.
“I would urge anyone who is a victim of abuse to speak to police in the knowledge you will be listened to, taken seriously and fully supported.”
