Two men arrested following £50,000 retail thefts spree across Edinburgh and Lothians
Two men have been arrested in connection with a spate of retail thefts totalling £50,000 across Edinburgh and the Lothians.
Police said the string of shopliftings have caused ‘significant issues for retailers and their staff’ with around 60 incidents reported ‘in a short space of time’.
The two suspects were arrested over the weekend after being ‘caught in the act’ and are due to appear in court at a later date.
Community Sergeant Brownlee said: "My team have worked tirelessly and efficiently to catch these suspects. Joint working with Edinburgh's Retail Crime Taskforce, and several well-known retailers, the team were able to put themselves in the best position to catch the suspects in the act.

“This is testament to the importance of pro-active policing and I am happy both males are now appearing at court. Most importantly the retailers and staff affected by these acts will feel safer at their place of work and we thank them for their cooperation throughout our enquiries.”
The Community Sergeant added: “Acquisitive crime is a priority for us and we will continue to bring those who offend to justice".
