Storm Boelo: Midlothian train line closed following reports of 'subsidence' in the area

Disruption has now ended.

Edinburgh to Tweedbank trains were cancelled on Saturday following reports of “subsidence” near Gorebridge.

Just after 4.30pm, ScotRail announced the Borders line, which runs through Gorebridge, had been forced to close.

All trains between Edinburgh and Tweedbank scheduled on Saturday evening were cancelled.

At around 8pm, ScotRail said the disruption had ended following a safety inspection. Services between Edinburgh and Tweedbank resumed on Sunday.

There is currently a 24-hour amber weather alert in force across Edinburgh and the Lothians, which will stay in place until 9pm on Sunday.

Widespread travel disruption is expected, with all of the UK’s train operators warning of cancellations and revisions to timetables.

On Saturday, a spokesperson for Network Rail Scotland said: “We're starting to see the effects of Storm Boelo across Scotland, with the wind and rain really picking up now.

“The weather is set to stick around into tomorrow, so we're likely to see more impacts across the railway.

“Our teams are out across the network, working hard to deal with issues as they come up and get things back to normal as quickly as they can.

“We know disruption is frustrating, especially when the weather is out of our hands.”
