Don’t forget to say Grace before Masterchef on TV - Fiona Duff

I may be a bit late to the table but just started watching the latest series of Celebrity Masterchef. Of course, as is increasingly the situation with the celebrity shows on television, I haven’t a clue who most of the contestants are.

With one group Alfie Boe was the only one that I had heard of before, mainly because I met him a couple of years ago at the Boswell Book Festival.

Anyway, I think I may have a bit of a girl crush on Grace Dent. What an absolute breath of fresh air after that gurning Greg Wallace with his cheesy jokes.

She’s an absolute natural and seems to really like helping the contestants. Big jewellery, good chat and excellent make-up – I mean what is not to like?

I recently read an interview with her, and like others before her, she was extremely complimentary about John Torode.

"One of the kindest, most concerned, clever, thoughtful men that I know," were her exact words and so It is a shame that he won’t be gracing our screens with Masterchef again.

I am not sure I really know how many people complained about him, but I can’t imagine that his lovely wife Lisa Faulkener would put up with any nonsense from him.

I mean, I know we all have to be very careful about what we say, even in jest or parody of racists and sexist pigs, because it seems that taking offence is easier than perhaps putting people right.

Having a few put-downs up your sleeve is always a good idea rather than running and squealing to the headmaster.

People who use unsavoury language usually have big problems themselves (I mean just look at Farage and Trump) and don’t like this being pointed out to them.

With my children about to appear on the horizon I too shall have to watch what I say as I cannot always get things quite right.

I think that have given up on my totally unreconstructed brothers. I have tried to explain that growing up on a farm sometimes makes you immune to how the rest of the world behaves.

Anyway, as I sit down later with my cheese on toast to watch magnificent meals and culinary crimes created there’s only one star in my eyes when I watch Celebrity Masterchef.

I just hope she minds her P’s and Q’s and stays for another series.
