5. Catriona Matthew
Catriona Matthew is a major golfing champion who is one of the most popular figures in the game. Born in Edinburgh, she grew up in North Berwick and in 2009 became the first player from Scotland to win a women's major. 6. Charles Jenner
Charles Jenner was the co-founder of iconic Edinburgh department stores Jenners, known as the Harrods of the north. A linen draper, Jenner joined forces with Charles Kennington to open 'Kennington & Jenner' in 1838. The original building was destroyed in a fire in 1892, and in a strange mirroring a huge blaze broke out in the new building more than a century later in January 2023 which claimed the life of firefighter Barry Martin. 8. Clement Graham Crowden
Clement Graham Crowden, known as Graham Crowden, was an actor best known for playing eccentric characters on the stage and screen. Born in Edinburgh, Crowden was educated at Clifton Hall School and then Edinburgh Academy. He served briefly in the Royal Scots Youth Battalion of the army but was accidentally shot by his platoon sergeant. With a career spanning more than half a century, Crowden became one of the best known British actors of his time.
