We reveal what we think are the best places for people to go for a nice quiet space to have a coffee.
5. Mary's Milk Bar
Reporter Anna Bryan chose Mary's Milk Bar at the Grassmarket. She said: "It’s not exactly a coffee shop, but the brews at Mary’s Milk Bar are delicious - and you can get a delicious gelato or sweet treat to accompany your hot drink. It’s perfectly located, so you can take your take-away coffee for a walk around the Grassmarket." Photo: Ian Georgeson
6. Press Coffee
This coffee shop on Buccleuch Street was chosen by Evening News editor Rhoda Morrison as her favourite in the city. She said: "Although it’s sometimes very difficult to get a table at Press Coffee, it’s my go-to place when I’ve got a spare hour to read my book or do some work. The coffees are lovely, as is the hot chocolate, and there’s lots of great options if you’re having food too." Photo: Google
7. Kate's
Kate's on Causewayside was chosen by trainee reporter Anabelle Gauntlett as her favourite coffee shop in Edinburgh. She said: "A beautiful little coffee shop in Newington that strives off its beautiful homemade cakes and organic produce. Kate’s is a family-run independent business that is perfect for reading a book, catching up with friends or escaping for a cosy hot chocolate. Books that spark your curiosity are spotted around the cafe for you to have a nose at during your stay there. Overall, the staff are very welcoming and you’re always promised a superb coffee."
