With the temperature set to drop over the coming weeks as autumn sets in, we’ve taken a look at what we think are the cosiest pubs in the city to enjoy a pint this autumn.
The Evening News team has provided their suggestions, from hidden gems in the New Town like Bramble Bar and Kay’s Bar to traditional old pubs like Tolbooth Tavern and Dagda Bar, there are plenty of places to have a cosy drink this autumn.
5. Tolbooth Tavern
Evening News reporter Kevin Quinn chose this old pub on the High Street as a great place to go in the autumn for a cosy pint. He said: "This atmospheric pub, in a reputedly haunted 16th-century building on the High Street, with wall lamps and framed pictures, is the perfect cosy location to enjoy a nice cold pint in warm surroundings to escape the Scottish autumnal weather." 6. Teuchers Landing
Evening News reporter Jolene Campbell recommends going to this pub by the shore in Leith for a cosy pint. She said: "Teuchers landing at the Shore is a great spot for a pint. It has cosy, fireside nooks and a friendly atmosphere. You can sit and look out over the water of Leith. And if you want to sample some whisky you can have a go at the hoop of destiny game." 7. The Dagda Bar
This Buccleuch Street pub was recommended by Evening News editor Rhoda Morrison as a great place to grab a cosy pint. She said: "One of my favourite pubs in Edinburgh, Dagda Bar has the feeling of a proper, old-fashioned pub. It is just one room and so fills up quickly with both long-time locals and students. It’s the perfect place to stop after a chilly walk in The Meadows in autumn and winter to warm up with a drink or two." Photo: Google Maps
8. Sandy Bell's
This Forrest Hill pub was recommended by Evening News trainee reporter Neil Johnstone as a great place to grab a cosy pint this autumn. He said: "A cosy bar that never disappoints, Sandy Bell’s is a unique pub with a decent selection of drinks. Known for their folk music sessions, the quaint bar is often packed to the rafters - especially during the festival, so for a cosy, slightly quieter, autumn pint – now is the time to go."
