Power cut hits businesses and homes in Dalkeith, Bonnyrigg and surrounding areas

A power cut hit 'several hundred' homes and businesses in Midlothian earlier today.

Midlothian Council put a message out on Twitter at 12.15pm to inform residents that there was a power outage in Dalkeith.

They then updated the message to say that Bonnyrigg and the surrounding areas were also affected.

A Scottish Power spokeswoman said there was a fault at a local power station just before noon - but power was restored to all properties by 2pm.

The spokeswoman said "several hundred" properties were affected but many of these may have just been lights flickering as opposed to a full power outage.

Dalkeith Country Park was one of the businesses to confirm on Twitter that a power outage had hit.

A traffic light failure at the busy Sheriffhall Roundabout is also thought to be due to the power failure.
