In our latest reporters’ recommendations feature, we take a look at our favourite shops in Edinburgh. With so many independent and national chain shops to choose from, we reveal where we most enjoy going to shop in the Capital.Among our favourites is a butcher’s shop in Longstone, a record shop in Newington and a landmark family-run shop on Elm Row which has served Edinburgh customers for 89 years.

. Harris and Sons Quality Meats
Evening News reporter Kevin Quinn chose this Longstone butcher's shop as his favourite shop in Edinburgh. He said: "When the shop was threatened with closure due to the retirement of local legend Bob Campbell, I and the local community were devastated. Thankfully local man Mark Nayer took on the shop so I can still pick up all the tasty food he produces and serves, including the shop's famous delicious pies!" Photo: KQ

. Fopp
Evening News reporter Anna Bryan's favourite Edinburgh shop is Fopp, which recently moved from its Rose Street premises (pictured) to a larger store on Shandwick Place. Anna said: "Fopp is definitely my favourite shop in Edinburgh. I used to spend hours browsing records and books in the Rose Street store - and plan to do the same in the new location on Shandwick Place.'' Photo: Neil Hanna

5. Valvona and Crolla
Evening News deputy editor Ginny Sanderson chose this gem as her favourite shop in Edinburgh. She said: "Valvona and Crolla is a cave of wonders hidden in plain sight in Elm Row. When you enter there are shelves to the ceiling filled to bursting with Italian produce, from luxurious pasta to the finest balsamic vinegar, wine, and pastries. It's like a museum of treasured artefacts that you can take home and devour. The shop itself is narrow and cavernous, eventually winding its way to a cafe hidden at the end. It just feels like the greatest little secret when you discover it." Photo: Greg Macvean

6. The Refillery
Evening News editor Rhoda Morrison chose this Newington Road shop as her favourite. She said: "As someone who's a bit health-food obsessed, I always love a wee visit to The Refillery. It is so nice to be able to take my own containers and fill them up with all sorts of food - from dried fruit and nuts to rice and pasta. It's great for filling up on shampoo, conditioner and house cleaning products too. And it's lovely to know that I'm supporting a business which is good for people and the planet as well!" 7. Backbeat Records
Evening News trainee reporter Neil Johnstone chose this record shop in Newington. He said: "Backbeat Records has an unmatched selection of records and owner, Dougie, possesses an encyclopaedic knowledge on a wide range of genres - often telling customers colourful stories about the artist's lives or the stories behind albums. This isn’t a shop where you can go in for a leisurely browse - the amount of records make it difficult to even enter the shop - but if you say what you are looking for, somehow he will find it amidst the rows of albums that form interior walls within the shop!"
