In our latest reporters’ recommendations feature, we take a look at our favourite pubs in Edinburgh, with so many great watering holes available to choose from for meeting friends, laughing, enjoying live music, eating, and lets not forget drinking, in the Capital.
From city centre pubs like The Waverley to more local community pubs such as the Corstorphine Inn, or pubs and bars down the Shore in Leith, we all have somewhere where we just love to go for a drink.

. The Blue Blazer
Evening News reporter Rachel Mackie chose The Blue Blazer on Bread Street as her favourite pub in the Capital. She said: "Edinburgh has some incredible pubs. I would have to say that my favourite is the Blue Blazer. I have a lot of really happy memories heading there after work when I worked in the Grassmarket. It's a beautiful old pub, a proper pub pub if that makes sense, and being in there just makes me happy!" Photo: Alistair Linford

. The Auld Hoose
Evening News trainee reporter Neil Johnstone's favourite Edinburgh pub is The Auld Hoose in St Leonards. He said: "It's always been one of my favourite pubs - a very down to earth and social pub, friendly staff and has a great selection of beers and food. It's also home to one of the best jukeboxes in the city." Photo: Greg Macvean

5. The Scotsman
Evening News trainee reporter Annabelle Gauntlett's favourite Edinburgh pub is the Scotsman on Cockburn Street. She said: "The atmosphere there is always on top form, with amazing live music every night and the staff are always so friendly. The drinks aren't overpriced and everyone is up for a laugh or a wee ceilidh. You're always guaranteed to have a good night!" Photo: Lisa Ferguson

6. The Waverley Bar
Evening News Lifestyle Editor Gary Flockhart chose a city centre watering hole, The Waverley Bar as his favourite pub in Edinburgh. He said: "The Waverley Bar is where I go to relax. Admittedly, it lost a bit of its magic when the original owner, Ian Walker, passed away several years back. But it still retains enough of its old charm, such as the shabby-chic Whithnail & I-like decor, and Edinburgh Fringe posters from festivals long gone by. It's a bar with so much history. Legendary folk musicians like Bert Jansch and Dick Gaughan cut their musical teeth playing at the weekly open-mic night, and so many famous names have passed through its doors. A dying breed, the St Mary’s Street boozer is a throwback to a bygone age." Photo: sub

7. The Basement
Reporter Jolene Campbell's favourite Edinburgh pub is the Basement on Broughton Street. She said: "Sizzling Mexican food, great tunes and always a lively atmosphere. It's bang in the centre too so it's always a good spot to meet up." Photo: gm

8. The Southsider
Evening News editor Rhoda Morrison chose The Southsider in West Richmond Street as her favourite Edinburgh pub. She said: "This is my go-to pub for a pint after work. Not only is it a stone's throw from my house which is very handy, but the staff are always so friendly, drinks are really reasonably priced and there's a real mix of people who go there. I've never been and not had someone strike up a conversation at the bar. It just feels like a good old-fashioned local." Photo: Rhoda Morrison
