In our latest reporters’ recommendations feature, we take a look at what we think are the best walks in Edinburgh. There are so many great places to go for a walk in the Capital and we have chosen our favourites, including the Water of Leith, the Braid Hills and Colinton Dell. Despite being a bustling city, Edinburgh has plenty of places where you can unwind and relax, giving you the feeling of being in a quieter countryside location.
5. Portobello Beach
Edinburgh Evening News editor Rhoda Morrison chose this seaside spot as her favourite place to go for a walk in the city. She said: "There are so many to choose from, but one of my favourite walks in the city is along the beach at Portobello. One of the many things that makes Edinburgh such a great place to live is the fact that we have such a beautiful beach just out of the city centre.
"I love spending a Saturday or Sunday morning wandering along the sand with a coffee and cake from the Little Green Van or The Beach House." Photo: National World
6. Portobello to the Old Town
Evening News lifestyle editor Gary Flockhart likes to walk from Portobello to the Old Town for a pint. He said: "I love taking a walk from Portobello to the Old Town, knowing that when I get there I'll have the reward of a nice cold pint at the Waverley Bar. It's a lovely walk that takes me through Fishwives' Causeway, then into Holyrood Park, and finally up the Canongate (pictured) before I hit the pub." Photo: Submitted
7. Craigmillar Castle
Evening News reporter Rachel Mackie chose this historic castle as her favourite place in Edinburgh to go for a walk.She said: "I'm a woodland sort of creature, so Craigmillar Castle is perfect for me. 8. Pentland Hills
Evening News reporter Jolene Campbell chose the Pentlands as her favourite place to go for a walk. She said: "When I need to clear my head I love a walk at Threipmuir (pictured) at the bottom of the Pentlands, through the woods surrounding the Harlaw Reservoir.
