The video was captured by 37-year-old Chris Egan, a conductor with ScotRail.

He said: "I’m often over that route and see planes coming all the time but that’s the closest I’ve seen one and rarely see military planes.”

The aircraft is an RAF C-17 Globemaster III, a long range, heavy-lift strategic transport aircraft.

It landed in Edinburgh airport on Thursday around 1.20pm.

A photo taken by Edinburgh resident Ross Ballantine shows the very train Chris was on as the plane flew overhead.

Ross said: “I was just passing by when I saw it.

“Very lucky shot to be honest – didn’t even realise I had caught the train also.”
