Edinburgh's 10 best-rated attractions as new data reveals chocolate museum takes top spot
Surprising results in study of Edinburgh attractions
New data has revealed that Edinburgh's best-rated attraction is a chocolate museum.
The Chocolatarium, off the Royal Mile at Cranston Street, is the best-rated visitor attraction in Edinburgh, according to new research by web experts at SEO Backlinks, beating the traditional tourist spots of Edinburgh Castle and the Palace of Holyroodhouse.

The study ranked 52 of the city's attractions by their Google reviews, with the chocolate museum averaging 4.91 stars from 3,222 reviews, ahead of Barnton Bunker (4.84 from 464) and Bonaly Country Park (4.80 from 428).
To build the ranking, SEO Backlinks ran more than 3,000 Google Maps searches for visitor attractions across the UK on 20 October 2026, then searched by name for well-known attractions the first sweep had missed.
The research kept the 52 attractions in Edinburgh with at least 300 Google reviews, 394,808 reviews in all, for museums and galleries, historic sites, gardens, nature reserves, and science, animal and family attractions.
Each was ranked by its exact average rating, worked out from its count of one, two, three, four and five-star reviews rather than the rounded score Google displays.

Shops, pubs, restaurants, hotels, theatres and event venues, sports, leisure and play venues, town parks, national parks, war memorials and natural features such as beaches, hills and lakes were left out, as were places that were closed to visitors at the time. Edinburgh Castle has more than one Google listing, and they were combined.
The National Museum of Scotland is fifth of the 52 attractions, averaging 4.79 from 60,258 reviews. The Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh is eighth with 25,240 reviews and a 4.75 average. Edinburgh Castle has the most reviews at 110,750 and ranks 26th of the 52 with an average of 4.62.
Daniel Weston, founder of SEO Backlinks said: "I think the range near the top is what stands out, from chocolate making and Cold War history to gardens, a fountain and a ruined castle.
“The Chocolatarium and Barnton Bunker both sit ahead of attractions with far larger review totals.
“The National Museum of Scotland has more than 60,000 reviews and still holds one of the strongest averages, which is impressive at that scale.
“Wherever you are thinking of visiting, read the latest reviews first to see what recent visitors have found."
