Otters have been spotted swimming in the Water of Leith in Edinburgh.

In a video posted on Twitter, the animals can be seen paddling across the surface of the river near Dean Village, before dipping under.

@rmgalt, who took the video, told followers: “The otters of Dean Village put on quite a show this evening.”

There have been a growing number of wildlife sightings in Edinburgh since the start of the lockdown, with deer among the most commonly spotted animals.

It is thought that massive reduction in traffic and business has prompted wildlife species to explore further into the city centre.

Last month, acclaimed Edinburgh-based author Ian Rankin posted a photo of The Mound on Twitter, telling followers that he could hear birdsong clearly due to the lack of traffic.
