Raise your glass to Leith’s award-winning public bars

PUBS are being honoured for helping to create safer venues for their customers.

The Best Bar None scheme, which has run in Leith for the past two years, was today set to see 21 venues receive awards at the city chambers.

The gold award winners include Leith Walk venues
Victoria Bar and Boda Bar, Parlour in Duke Street, Bond No9 in Commercial Street, Sofi’s Bar in Henderson Street
and the Leith Beer Company on The Shore.

Silver awards were set to be presented to Links Tavern in Restalrig Road, Carriers Quarters in Bernard Street, Granary, Cruz, King’s Wark and Malt & Hops on The Shore, Teuchter’s Landing in Dock Place, Malmaison in Tower Place, and Foot of the Walk and the Marksman in Duke Street.

Bronze awards will be presented to Middleton’s, Four in Hand and Tamson’s in Easter Road, the Central Bar on Leith Walk, and Tam O’Shanter on Great Junction Street.

Councillor Eric Milligan, convener of the licensing board, said: “The Best Bar None scheme has proved to be very popular, and I’m delighted that it has proved to be such a success in Leith with 21 premises taking part.”

Cllr Milligan explained: “It allows licensed premises to provide the best service possible and also reassures the public that they can enjoy a safe and happy night out and experience everything that the area has to offer.”
