Reopening of Wester Hailes swimming pool delayed due to 'unforeseen circumstances' despite plans to open next week
The facilities were due to fully open on Tuesday, September 1 but this date has since been scrapped.
The reopening of leisure facilities at Wester Hailes High School has been delayed just hours after Edinburgh Leisure said it was due to reopen next week.
The swimming pool has been closed to the public since March 31, 2025 for a major refurbishment, with other fitness facilities also being refurbished.
Edinburgh Leisure announced earlier today (August 28) that the fitness facilities at Wester Hailes High School were set to fully reopen on Tuesday, September 1.

However, this has now been scrapped and the reopening has been indefinitely delayed.
Edinburgh Leisure said in a statement: “We can confirm that, due to late unforeseen circumstances, the reopening of Wester Hailes High School will be delayed.
“We apologise for any confusion this may have caused and will provide a further update in due course.”
Images of the updated facilities showed a completely new swimming pool, featuring new lane swimming as well as diving and family session planned.
There have also been upgrades to the changing rooms and the installation of a state-of-the-art pool pod to support easy entry to the water.
The fitness suite has also been given a refresh, with daytime access now available and 30 cardio and resistance zones available for use.
Edinburgh Leisure said that the refurbishment was undertaken with the need of local residents “at the heart of the development”.
The Wester Hailes leisure facilities were refurbished as part of the project to build a new school building. The redevelopment of Wester Hailes High School is expected to be completed in autumn 2026.
