Squatters to stay for now

SQUATTERS occupying a city centre cafe have been given a stay of execution.

The group, which have taken over the former Forrest Cafe on Bristo Place, were supposed to be kicked out yesterday. Instead authorities put off the action.

More than 100 people began the sit-in at the end of November and called it the People’s Cafe, setting out aims to turn it into a community facility to host arts and cooking lessons.

Since former owners Edinburgh University Settlement went bankrupt, it has been taken on by administrators PricewaterhouseCoopers, which wants to sell the building.
