Edinburgh Trams issue travel update with trams only running between Edinburgh Airport and West End

Services are currently only running between Edinburgh Airport and the West End

Tram services in Edinburgh are running again after they were restricted on part of the route due to a “technical issue”.

Edinburgh Trams told commuters in an update earlier today that trams were only running between Edinburgh Airport and the West End stop on Shandwick Place.

Trams were previously only running to Picardy Place as per a travel notice issued earlier this morning but the route was restricted further to the West End at around 11.15am.

Ticket acceptance was in place on Lothian Bus services between West End and Newhaven for those heading to or from the east of the tram line.

It is believed that the issue impacting services related to a broken down tram on Leith Walk.

Lothian Bus services were diverted away from part of Leith Walk and Great Junction Street following the breakdown.

Services 7, 14, and 16 were being diverted via Bonnington Road and Pilrig Street southbound, while services 25 and 49 were diverted via Easter Road and London Road southbound.

The latest travel issue comes only just over a week after the full tram service was re-introduced following the reopening of Princes Street.

The closure of Princes Street, which lasted from July 9 until August 29, was introduced following a fire at the former Debenhams department store.

Tram services only ran between Edinburgh Airport and West End, while buses were diverted during the closure.
