Flight disruption at Edinburgh Airport as air traffic control investigates 'technical issue' weeks after travel chaos
Today’s disruption comes just weeks after around 2,000 flights across the UK were cancelled or delayed
Passengers have taken to social media to report delays and cancellations at various airports throughout the country, including in the Capital.
The departures board for Edinburgh Airport currently shows a number of flights being delayed and some cancellations.
National Air Traffic Services (Nats) said it has responded to a “technical issue” at its Prestwick site, which handles air traffic for all of Scotland as well as parts of northern England.
A spokesman for Edinburgh Airport said: “We are experiencing some delays due to the NATS issue at Prestwick Centre.

“We are monitoring the situation closely and are working with NATS as they work to resolve the issue.
“Passengers should check with their airline for the latest information on their flight.”
A Nats spokesman said: “Our engineers are continuing to investigate the issue at our Prestwick centre in Scotland.
“Airports south of Manchester are broadly unaffected, however flights heading north and flights departing Scottish airports are currently subject to some delay.
“Passengers should check with their airlines. This is unrelated to the issue two weeks ago. We apologise for the disruption.”
It comes only a few weeks after a technical issue at Nats caused widespread disruption throughout the UK.
The incident saw around 2,000 flights cancelled following a software defect. It has been reported that today’s disruption is not related to this previous software issue.
