Flights suspended at Edinburgh Airport while staff deal with 'aircraft issue' on runway
Flights were halted at Edinburgh Airport on Monday afternoon while staff dealt with an ‘aircraft issue’.
Operations at Scotland’s busiest airport were suspended at around 1pm on December 8 due to an issue with an aircraft which the airport said ‘landed safely and remains on the runway’.
A spokesman for Edinburgh Airport said passengers were being transported back to the terminal by coaches. He added: “Teams are carrying out inspections before operations resume. Updates to follow.”
At around 2pm, the airport said operations had resumed following the incident.
A spokesman said: “Safety is always paramount and we would like to thank passenger for their patience and understanding. Thank you also to our teams who responded and have worked to resume operations.”
It comes just days after all flights to and from Edinburgh Airport were stopped due to an IT issue affecting Air Traffic Control.

The issue, which only affected Edinburgh Airport, saw all flights grounded on the morning of December 5, with passengers having told the Evening News they were left sitting on a plane for hours with ‘nothing moving at all’.
Speaking on Friday, a spokesperson for Edinburgh Airport said: “Due to an IT issue with our air traffic control provider, no flights are currently operating from Edinburgh Airport.
“Teams are working on the issue and will resolve as soon as possible. We will provide updates when possible - please contact your airline for the latest information on your flight.”
Also speaking last week, an Air Navigation Solutions spokesman said: “This morning a technical issue affected one of our systems at Edinburgh Airport and it impacted flight operations. Our technical capability has now been reinstated and flights have since resumed.
“Safety is our number one priority, and our engineers worked at pace to restore system capability as quickly as possible. We regret the inconvenience that this is causing and thank everyone for their patience.”
