Warning as road outside Ocean Terminal to close to buses for urgent repairs after 'road defect' found

It comes after the road was closed to buses last week due to “road defects”

The road outside Edinburgh’s Ocean Terminal shopping centre is set to be closed to traffic for most of Wednesday (August 5) amid urgent repairs.

Ocean Drive will be under repair from 9am until 5pm, following reports of damage to the road.

The stretch of road outside the shopping centre in Leith was first closed last week after a “small area of carriageway subsidence” was discovered on Wednesday, July 29.

In an update, Edinburgh Travel News, which is operated by the council, told followers last week: “Alterations to bus services at Ocean Terminal following the discovery of a small area of carriageway subsidence at the north end of Ocean Drive.”

Ocean Terminal told customers at the time: “Lothian Buses have reinstated the diversion on Ocean Drive and will not be serving the stops at Ocean Terminal.Temporary bus stop is located near the Capital Cruise Building on Melrose Drive to the side of the centre.

“This is due to a road defect on Ocean Drive that is unable to be navigated by buses. Repair is currently indicated to be taking place next week. Please note, our car park is open as normal.”

The City of Edinburgh Council has been contacted for comment on Wednesday’s road repairs.

Lothian Buses has confirmed that a number of routes will be diverted during the planned road repair.

The service 10 between North Junction Street and Ocean Drive will be diverted via Lindsay Road and Melrose Drive, while service 17 buses from Lindsay Road will be diverted via Melrose Drive.

Services 34, 35, and 36 will be diverted via Lindsay Road and Melrose Drive between Commercial Street and Ocean Terminal.

Trams are currently not running at the Ocean Terminal stop, with services in the east of the city still paused following a fire on Princes Street on July 9.

Services are only operating between Edinburgh Airport and the West End stop on Shandwick Place.

The reduced service looks set to continue for the foreseeable future after Edinburgh council said Princes Street will remain closed continue until at least mid-August and Edinburgh Trams indicated that a partial service was not viable without access to the Gogar depot.
