Tributes paid to crash pilot killed with future in-laws

TRIBUTES have today been paid to a Scottish pilot who died along with his fiancée’s parents when the plane he was flying crashed into a lakeside forest in Canada.

Colin Moyes, 52, from Peebles, was at the controls of a de Havilland Beaver float plane carrying Peter Keate, 81, and wife Inez, 79, when disaster struck.

The plane hit a hillside shortly after taking off from Okanagan Lake, British Columbia, and burst into flames.

Mr Moyes was set to marry Mr and Mrs Keate’s daughter, Alexandra, on June 23. Mrs Keate’s sister Madeline Smith said: “It’s a dreadful thing. I feel so sorry for Alex. They were just a lovely couple.”

Mr Keate’s sister Susan White added: “It was a great shock when we heard the news.”
